Chris Rock has made recent jokes confirming that a percentage of his tour earnings still goes to his ex-wife, Malaak Compton.

Rock and Compton-Rock finalized their divorce in 2016 after nearly 20 years of marriage. The details of the sealed settlement were not officially released, but it was reported that the lack of a valid prenuptial agreement (which had expired due to a "sunset clause" after a certain number of years) meant a significant financial settlement was likely. Rock frequently jokes about the high cost of his divorce, often recommending his ex-wife's lawyer to his friends because she "got all the money".

During the 2025 Wall Street Journal Innovator Awards, he explicitly quipped about the arrangement: "When my friends are getting divorced, I recommend my ex-wife's attorney. That's beautiful — the percentage of my tour is gonna go to my ex-wife, of course". This indicates that the financial obligations from the settlement, including a share of his ongoing income such as tour proceeds, are still active.
