The new rule will become effective on April 1.

It follows a major fire on an Air Busan flight likely caused by an overheating power bank.

SIA said passengers who violate the new rule could be fined or have their devices confiscated.

Passengers must continue carrying the devices in cabin baggage.

Several other airlines including Thai Airways, Eva Air and Air Astana have issued similar rules placing limits on power banks and other charging devices.

"Our crew are trained to remain vigilant and ensure customers comply with in-flight safety procedures," Singapore Airlines said.
